Proximity is Not Intimacy

Take a moment to refresh, refocus, and refine your faith.

Lord, it’s difficult for me to understand how Cain could commit such a radical sin when he lived and spoke so closely with you. If his heart could be severely out of alignment even in such proximity to you, how much more susceptible am I to allowing my heart to slide farther and farther away from your intended Eden perfection? God, heal and reform the flawed attitudes, priorities, and practices of my heart so that I will always offer you the best of me with joy. Help me see you rightly and maintain a trusting, grace-filled relationship with you. Amen.

Genesis 4:3-5

In the course of time Cain brought some of the fruits of the soil as an offering to the Lord. And Abel also brought an offering—fat portions from some of the firstborn of his flock. The Lord looked with favor on Abel and his offering, but on Cain and his offering he did not look with favor. So Cain was very angry, and his face was downcast.
