Lord, Un-teach Me
Jesus, so much of your earthly ministry was un-teaching people corrupt concepts institutions of that day had made both moral and legal requirements. Concepts so ingrained in culture and practice that any doubts cast over them were met with immediate hostility instead of reflection. There is nothing new under the sun. Lord, humble me that I might recognize the same patterns of corruption and evil I’ve taken for granted within myself and my culture. Help me see institutions and authorities of this world through your eyes. Guide me in challenging those ideas and practices and repenting of what I’ve believed and done against your holy word. Break my heart for what breaks yours and lead me in continuing Jesus’ work to proclaim good news to the poor, bind the brokenhearted, proclaim freedom for prisoners, and shine light for those in darkness.
The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners,
