A Prayer for Peaceful Communities

Take a moment to refresh, refocus, and refine your faith.

Father, as I hear sirens fly by, I ask that you cover first responders with your hand. I ask that you guide their actions and dictate their words. Preserve life where it can be preserved. Get people the help they need. Prevent violence and death. I ask that you bestow an extra measure of your comfort and peace on the families of EMTs, fire department staff, police officers, and response line technicians. Orchestrate the moving parts of communities to your divine time that people would be in the right places to do your work in preventing tragedies. Guide us as citizens in our own actions as well as in our power to vote leaders into office. Help us each do our parts to make our communities and nation a symbol of peace. Amen.

1 Peter 2:13-17

Be subject for the Lord's sake to every human institution, whether it be to the emperor as supreme, or to governors as sent by him to punish those who do evil and to praise those who do good. For this is the will of God, that by doing good you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish people. Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God. Honor everyone. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the emperor.
