Aversion to Repentance

Take a moment to refresh, refocus, and refine your faith.

Lord, I don’t want to sit down and face my sin. I honestly don’t want to do the work of correcting all the ways I’ve willfully rebelled against you and things I failed to do that I should have done. I don’t want to take a hard look at my character flaws. None of that appeals to me. But I know that you’re worth it. If I don’t own up to my disobedience, then I won’t benefit from the fullness of a relationship with you. I won’t experience you in all your glory and come to see the sins I cling to as they truly are: a stinking, rotting, diseased pile of rubbish infecting my life. Holy Spirit, help me overcome my aversion to doing the hard and holy work of repentance. Take pity on me, show me mercy, and meet me where I am so that I will willingly take your hand and walk with you through the process of transforming into the person you deserve me to be. Amen.

Acts 3:19

Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord.
