Mercy's Dirty Work

Writer's picture: Megan L. AndersonMegan L. Anderson

Take a moment to refresh, refocus, and refine your faith.

Lord, forgive me for sanitizing the definition of mercy to excuse myself from doing the hard and holy job of practicing it. Mercy often requires leaving comfort and dignity behind in order to meet others where they are – in a mess, in pain, under oppression. Humble me with the reminder of our equality in your sight. Develop in me not only a willingness but a desire to do the dirty work of loving. Amen.

James 2:13

For judgment will be merciless to one who has shown no mercy; mercy triumphs over judgment.

I got James 4:17 tattooed onto my arm specifically to challenge me not to pass up an opportunity to help someone in need.
